Finished:1964 Impala Lowrider

When I started this build in 2018, I had originally planned to make a factory stock, red Impala. Well...the paint can I chose to do it, Guards Red from Testors, decided otherwise. It came out splattered. I was pretty dejected but my family. and one of my model club members who saw it, encouraged me to finish it. So...I did. And with a paint job like that, the only way I could go was a lowrider. I ended up using parts from two or three kits, that's unknown. The front seats and the gold wheels came from a Revell 1963 Impala, but the tires came out of my parts box, so they MAY have come from either of the Impala kits...I'll never know. (I had gathered up all my lowrider tires and wheels for a different project that never progressed past the wheel and tire gathering stage)

Since I was going full lowrider, and since I wanted the left side to be showcased, I engineered it to have the left front wheel up in the air using the three options of suspension height provided in the kit.

Since the exhaust pipes were visible behind the left wheel, and possibly into the engine compartment, I had to build a full engine, something I don't do all that often.

Revell kit, has been in my stash since either 1999 or 2000, one of the first kits I bought when I began modeling.
It has been in my stash longer than most other kits. The paint is Testors 1630 Gloss Custom Green Metal Flake, and there's something like 4 coats on the car because it's VERY thin. it's darker and has more gold in the flake than appears in the photos- thank the sun for that. I actually built the engine and the chassis fully! Had to do that because I chose to use the open hood. This car is inspired by the kind of cars I see at the Adirondack Nationals.

2015 Hallmark Christmas Cars

I don't really post about cars I have not built on here- I have an extensive diecast collection which will be getting it's own blog very soon- but I wanted to get these posted. These are the 4 Hallmark Christmas cars of 2015. The Mercury Cougar is #25 in the Classic American Cars series, the 1957 Chevrolet pickup is #21 in the Classic Trucks series, the 1978 Firebird is a special repaint issue, and the 1932 Ford is #1 in the new Keepsake Kustom series, and a first for Hallmark- it has opening doors!

Now that I've got them photographed, it's time to find a space for them on the Christmas Tree...

1968 El Camino - Gold

Here is one of my favorite models- and also one of my most recent completions, even though it has been more than 2 years now.

When I built this model, I was suffering from the effects of Diabetic  Keto Acidosis, or DKA. 24 hours after I finished this model, is when I really started to feel terrible, and exactly one week after I finished it, I collapsed and came within 5 minutes of dying. Literally, not an exaggeration. Even when I built it, I could barely see...it's amazing it turned out as good as it did.

I know I could have done better, but I have been in a massive slump for several years and wanted to actually finish something, so I overlooked things I would normally address. It really doesn't detract from the finished model too much.

The paint is Testors One Shot Lacquer Inca Gold. Straight on the plastic, no primer, no clearcoat.

Although I love El Caminos and picked up the nickname El Camino Billy on the modeling message boards, I have only built a handful of models of them. I really need to build more, but I keep having paint issues...and I've managed to ruin most of my attempts at building any El Caminos.
