October 2015 HVHMG meeting

Held 10/7/2015, my 4th meeting of the year.

President Tim gave a small presentation on armor modeling. (Small, get it?)

October 2015 Town of Newburgh Model Car Club Meeting

Only my third meeting of either club I've been to in 2015 combined, held on October 5th.

This is polished diecast. It looks really cool in person!

None of the builds are mine, as I have not finished anything in a year and a half.

I was published in Scale Auto's 2015 Contest Cars!

For many modelers, getting a model photographed at a show is just about the highest honor you can receive...especially at an NNL, which is not a contest and does not do awards. I am lucky to have been photographed multiple times, and most of the times when I've been photographed it has been published. I am extremely lucky in this regard...I know multiple modelers who I consider better builders than myself who have never been photographed at all, let alone published.

I believe this is my 6th time being published, although to be totally honest, one of the times I was published was when I was submitting the show coverage. (MassCar one year, but I don't remember which year).

It comes 10 years after my first publication in the 2005 Scale Auto Contest cars...both of which were NASCAR models, naturally.

The model was quite obviously my Brad Noffsinger Buick, the only model I've completed in the last 2 years. I have to admit, seeing this in print makes me want to build some more, I have not had the motivation to touch anything for a while.

Here is the cover of the magazine it is from.

1948 Tucker

This was my first resin model, produced by the Modelhaus. I built this, and took these photos, back in 2006. It is the most popular model I've ever built- when I posted it on the Hobby Heaven message board back in 2006, it received over 200 compliments and over 1000 views. It's one of my favorite models I've ever built, and is one of the few resins I've actually completed.

The paint is Tamiya gold over Tamiya gray primer.

I painted it to match the only real Tucker I've ever seen in person, at the Auburn-Cord-Duesenberg Museum in October 2003. the only difference was that I gave it a red interior instead of gray as the real car had- I had no references for a gray interior but I did find some red interior shots online. I didn't think to take any of the inside when I saw it in 2003.

1968 El Camino - Gold

Here is one of my favorite models- and also one of my most recent completions, even though it has been more than 2 years now.

When I built this model, I was suffering from the effects of Diabetic  Keto Acidosis, or DKA. 24 hours after I finished this model, is when I really started to feel terrible, and exactly one week after I finished it, I collapsed and came within 5 minutes of dying. Literally, not an exaggeration. Even when I built it, I could barely see...it's amazing it turned out as good as it did.

I know I could have done better, but I have been in a massive slump for several years and wanted to actually finish something, so I overlooked things I would normally address. It really doesn't detract from the finished model too much.

The paint is Testors One Shot Lacquer Inca Gold. Straight on the plastic, no primer, no clearcoat.

Although I love El Caminos and picked up the nickname El Camino Billy on the modeling message boards, I have only built a handful of models of them. I really need to build more, but I keep having paint issues...and I've managed to ruin most of my attempts at building any El Caminos.

Thanks for looking!

USS Jimmy Carter

It's been a while since I've posted anything- I tend to have a one track mind, and right now and for the past year+ it's been on trading cards. But I want to post on here, it's just...finding the time and mental motivation is not always easy.
This model I'm going to show today is my only completed submarine model, and my only ship model completed yet- although one of my favorite subjects to look at, the actual building of them is beyond my current skill set.

This kit ended up being more of a lark than anything else- I was visiting one of my favorite hobby shops, it was on the counter for under $10, so I decided to take a chance. It worked out well.

Oh yes...it floats!

The most amazing thing of all...I actually won an award with this model! I've been entering models in contests since the early 2000s, and I've won a grand total of three awards. This was the second to win, although, to be honest, there were only three models entered in the class, so I was guaranteed an award. I'll take it!
